Letter to Jimmy Santiago Baca

Dear Mr Jimmy Santiago Baca,

I writing regarding your past life experiences. I firstly came across you and your writing when it was handed to me by my English teacher Mr ‘O’ Brien (Who understands me but me) and after reading your poem it made me reflect on my life and my past life experiences as well. You really bring a different side of emphasis to poetic writing compared to other writers because by you and your writing sends a message to people around, to chase your wildest dreams and never give up no matter what.

Anyway what I’d like to know is what really inspired you to become a poet; and how has that talent of poetry affected you in your life. Because whenever I read your poems I feel a lot of the pain and grief you’ve passed through that is how you deeply express that pain through your poems.

I’ve also heard something that really devastates me regarding you being put in solitary confinement for 20 years, what I’d really like to know are what were the reasons for them putting you behind bars for 20 years; also how did you eventually continue your poetic writing when you were released, and when your parents heard about your sentence what were their first thoughts as and reactions? There are so many questions I’m dying to ask you. As I see things you’ve really faced so many problems in your life and these are things I would like to be answered. But, something that I have noticed even though you were put in prison for 20 years what made you to stay 100% positive no matter all that you had faced, also was there anyone In particular who was always kind to you and was there anyone who was a complete nightmare whilst you were locked up. Anyway I could go on for years and years asking you questions so let me just move on.

Now I would like to know about you past childhood experiences that you have faced both the good and the bad about you, you’re family also you’re friends. Apparently, you were an orphan and grew up in an orphanage are those conspiracies actually true, am I actually being actually told the truth; well only you can answer those questions. Coming back to what we were discussing I would like to know how did your family treat you and being a part of your family how did it usually make you feel, did you have siblings brothers and sisters and if you did how nice were they to you, did they piss you off and aggravate you constantly or were they gentle, loving, kind and willing to spread and share love amongst you all.

How supportive were your family to you in the good times and the bad have you ever felt like a time that your family doesn’t love you and I would just like to run away from this place. I know this information I am asking of you is extravagantly personal but is just that I am so intrigued to learn more about your absolutely exciting life.

If there was a moment in time that you had the ability to change what specific moment would it have been and why or if you were able to travel forward in time to make your life better for you to have a foreseeable future what will you try to do to guarantee yourself a happy life. Don’t worry I will not share this information with anyone else I am just seeing this as an opportunity to ask you things that I would personally like to know about your life. Anyways I think I would have to go I think breaks over. Bye!!

Yours Sincerely

How Does Sherman Alexie Present the Character of Junior as an Outsider

In the novel “The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian a boy named Junior has so many differences compared to an normal child being born with water on the brain and ten extra teeth isn’t what any child in the world would ever want for them self. This essay will briefly conclude to why Sherman Alexie presents the character of Junior similar to an outsider.

A way in which Junior is presented as an outsider is due to his physical appearance he was born with water on the brain and had ten more teeth than a usual child when he was young. A Quote that shows this is when Alexie writes “My brain was drowning with grease,” this quote shows how Junior’s birth difficulties affected him extravagantly in his physical and mental status. Another quote that Junior is presented as an outsider is when Alexie writes, “I have ten more teeth than usual, Ten more than human,” this shows that Junior has ten more teeth than the average human being. The normal human being is supposed to have only 32 teeth however he has 42 and this shows that Junior is an outsider through his physical difficulties.

The word “Ten in this instance presents that Junior has 10 extra teeth than the average human being, the word “more-than” shows that he has more than what he actually needs and the word “human” in this context shows that he is referring to himself as not a normal human being.

Can an Indian have a legacy in a white town?

Word (legacy)= describes what Junior cares about

This chapter is about when Junior goes out with Roger and Penelope and he discovers that his pancake day out with Roger and Penelope wouldn’t be as pleasant as he thought it would have been and talked to his friend Roger and he allowed him to express his feelings towards him. This shows that Junior wants to be like the other kids in Reardan because he is extravagantly scared of the way he would be judged if he is not popular like the other students whom attend Reardan High School. So he is using the fact that Roger is well know around Reardan to help him get a clear understanding of how to be popular around Reardan. The quote “How can an Indian have a legacy in a white town” shows that Junior wants to meet the standards of people like Penelope and Roger and he is trying to say to himself whether he would ever be as popular and well respected as people like them. Another quote that explain that Junior is an outsider is when he says “Part-Time Indian.

The quote “Part-Time Indian has several different meanings to it, as a metaphor in this context explains how he is the only Indian person attending a white school; that suggests that Junior is living two separate lives one on the Reservation and one in Reardan. This shows how Junior is presented as an outsider. Also The fact that he has to walk from home to school every morning show that he can’t afford all those things and isn’t as fortunate as other kids in Reardan. And this concludes to why Alexie presents the character of Junior similar to which of an outsider.

My Extrordinary Life

Hi my name is David Soyemi, a youngster destined for greatness. I’m an extravagantly noble child ready to show how capable I am of doing great things in life. There have been many ups and downs in my life but once I put my mind to things I am unstoppable.

I was born on December 18 2003 and grew up in a lovely town named South Bermondsey. In my family I have two brothers and two sisters and I love them very much.

At the age of two years old I went to my parents country called Nigeria and lived there for not such a long time because I had to begin primary school. Back in the day it was so lovely having your family around you . It was like I was already in heaven. However, we all have to grow up because that is how life works.

My grandparents are also astonishing people because they are always so sweet towards me and my brothers and sisters. Primary school was a wonderful journey for me and I saw it through to the very end, I had to say goodbye to those I loved and those who where there for me when I needed support most. My journey has just started in secondary school I think I still have a long way to go to begin making a lot of progress for the future ahead of me.

Well for me school has always been an absolute dream and over the years I’ve learn’t not to take these opportunities for granted. When I grow up my all time goal is to become a lawyer or even a president because I’m very good at dictating. But, one thing that I need to learn which is important to reach my all time goal is to keep your head high and to always stride on to the best of your ability, and once you put this effort in the things that you do then you know that you can achieve anything. I will be honest as a person I dream big things and by focusing on your work doing well in all your subjects and putting 100% effort in your work then that might be a possibility.

The school I go to is called The London Nautical School and I love the school a lot because of all of the teachers and students. They all make me feel like I have a second home, where I can express all my problems. London Nautical is a school you could definitely rely on.

I have a feeling that if I constantly practice I can turn those dreams into a reality. Advice I can give to people that also want to be something that the always dreamed to be is keep your head high, push yourself further and show you are determined to accomplish anything. Oops I think I have said to much mums calling me for dinner fish and chips delicious. See you guys later.

My Regards David Soyemi. Anyways I am expecting my first pet which is actually going to be awesome. Trust me it will be.

The Story of Life or Death

The land colour sparkled the wind danced happily to the breeze that went by. The grass was green, the trees smile and life was as wonderful as it had ever been. Zeus a noble king was the protector of the land and never allowed the face of evil to slip through his eyes. And his daughter Persephone a woman who was caring to every mythical creature that lived in the land. She showed love to all the animals of the land and made sure everything was as happy as it could be. One day, Zeus sent down a lightning bolt covered in a writing to earth in the form of a book, with all the deepest secrets he had left for a long time. But a mischievous Jabberwocky was jealous of Zeus causing rage to dwell with the land. Life was in danger. And right by his side an evil genius who always was as evil as can be. The life of innocent people were at stake.

The Wrath of Grendel

They dwell apart among wolves on the hills. Without warning I saw the treacherous figure of Grendel hover over my head. Fear rapidly overtook me like poison running throughout my body.

He appeared like a nightmare. Grendel. My whole life flashed right before my eyes. My companions ran towards my direction.

Legends of Grendel

As time passes stories are told day after day you have a heart so cold, but as life goes by you’ll know how it feels, to be the one who gives us mysterious stories untold. Without warning a touch of death rapidly circulates me, my head mixes different types of colours being blended briskly in a blender. My heart pounded like a bass drum. The wind whistles wearily and taps me on the shoulder I look round looking for people to comfort me. Suddenly my whole life rapidly flashes before my eyes leaving me dizzy inside. Is it the time for life or death? It is like my every move is being watched. Rapidly my hands vibrate like a washing machine my heart races rapidly to above and beyond limits it could ever reach, this leaves fright and despair to swiftly overtake my soul like poison meandering throughout your body.
